This year, Castilleja welcomed a new face in the science department: Khrista Williams who teaches Honors Chemistry. With a lifelong love for science, Williams brings both her enthusiasm for the subject and excitement about joining the Casti community.
When asked what she wanted to be as a child, Williams said that she wanted to be a geologist as she has always loved science. Williams added that growing up, her favorite subjects were science and math, a passion that has come full circle staying with her throughout her education and career.
Williams explored several fields before arriving at Castilleja. She ran a catering company, did event planning, and worked as a substitute teacher, covering elementary to high school. Her varied career path taught her valuable lessons in leadership and working with people of all ages, which she now brings to the classroom.
When asked what her favorite thing about Castilleja is so far Williams said, “The students, the all-girls environment, and of course, the froyo!” She is excited to be a part of a school that encourages young women to engage deeply in subjects like chemistry and looks forward to building strong connections with her students.
Williams grew up in Southern California near Palm Springs and San Diego. In addition to studying chemistry, she also studied French in school and enjoys learning new things. Reflecting on her education, she remembers a special experience with one of her favorite teachers: “My Econ teacher took us on a field trip to New York, and it was just a very fun bonding experience,” she said, highlighting how much she values meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom.
When she’s not in her classroom teaching, Williams loves to read and watch TV. At the moment, she said that she is really into Lessons in Chemistry, and she’s also hooked on “The Golden Bachelorette,” a version of the Bachelorette with senior citizens.
Castilleja is fortunate to have Williams joining the Science Department. Her students can look forward to engaging lessons and a teacher who’s deeply passionate about science and learning. Be sure to stop by and say hello if you see her around campus—especially if you share her love of froyo or chemistry!
