“Every day on this campus is a memorable one.” This is the approach Sophie Profit ’25 has taken throughout her years here at Castilleja. Since sixth grade, this senior has embraced a positive mindset, traditions and living in the moment both inside and outside of the classroom.
A big moment in her high school journey came during her Hass fellowship, which Castilleja awards annually to incoming seniors to “understand voices unfamiliar to your own.” Profit chose to delve deeper into foreign aid in Columbia for her fellowship. She attended workshops, conducted interviews in Columbia and wrote a paper at the end of her research, connecting her findings to current global events and issues. She described the fellowship as something that “really pushed my interest in these topics.”
Profit has also learned a lot about herself and her own interests through various classes at Castilleja, feeling particularly drawn to her Individual and Society (I&S) history class in her sophomore year, which inspired her interest in law and politics. While her ideas for the future have evolved since middle school, she has stayed true to her roots, having always loved writing and speaking. “Ever since I was really young, I always knew that that’s something I wanted to do in my life,” Profit said.
When asked about some of her favorite memories and traditions at Casti, Profit emphasized sports senior nights. “Not just my senior night, but like with [seniors] from…past years as well, have always been super special,” Profit stated, highlighting her value for inter-grade connections. She had three senior nights of her own this school year for flag football, soccer and most recently lacrosse. Profit is a strong leader and team player, believing “every single player has an important role in the team.” She also appreciates “all the small traditions” and “grade bonding” both with her close friends and as well as the Class of 2025 as a whole.
Looking to the future, Profit plans on majoring in international relations at Stanford University and wants to eventually pursue a higher degree in political science or international relations. She hopes to someday go to law school as well: “I think that would be really cool and that’s…been my dream for a while.”
The advice she would give to her younger self would be to not stress out about little things. In the larger scheme of things, what she thinks matters most is making the most of your time at Castilleja and making memories that will last forever. She is a firm believer that once you start looking at life as a very positive experience, “everything starts to turn around.” She described how this change in mentality makes such a big difference.
“Over time at Casti, I’ve become a lot more sure of who I am as a person,” Profit said. She feels like she has changed a lot as a person while remaining true to her values and beliefs, making a lasting mark on the Castilleja community.
